Trenchless Technology Offers Versatile, Long-Term Solutions
The corrosive and abrasive environments of aging and deteriorating storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructures present a formidable and costly challenge for utilities, municipalities, state, federal, and commercial property owners. Because of its many benefits, trenchless pipe repair has become the go-to solution for many pipeline owners.
The development and advancement of trenchless technologies offer a versatile alternative to traditional dig-and-replace methods, as well as offer many notable benefits: they are less invasive, faster, more economical, and are an environmentally sound approach for repairing and replacing sewer lines and other infrastructure.
Repairing or restoring pipes with traditional trenching methods is difficult and expensive especially when pipes run deep or under solid obstacles. Trenchless technologies make it possible to repair the pipeline under waterways, roadways, and other obstacles with little or no disruption of flow and with minimal damage to the surrounding area. Ultimately less expensive and labor-intensive, trenchless pipeline rehabilitation is also less invasive than conventional methods.
Since trenchless pipe repair usually requires only one access or entry point, excavation is minimized. State-of-the-art inspection technologies provide an accurate condition assessment of existing sewer and stormwater pipelines. Pipes are then accessed and repaired to full structural integrity without disruptions to surface traffic and other potential risks are avoided.
The types of underground infrastructures and pipelines that benefit from trenchless rehabilitation applications include:
- Large Diameter Pipes
- Culverts (All Sizes + Construction Types)
- Stormwater + Sanitary Sewer Systems
- Pump + Lift Stations
- Manhole + Trunk System Lines
What Are Trenchless Pipe Repair Methods?
Since 2000, MCSP has utilized latest in trenchless rehabilitation technologies and advanced, proprietary application techniques, to repair or restore severely deteriorating storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructures across the country. Our structural repair and pipeline protection expertise include:
Cast-In-Place Pipe Lining
The cast-in-place pipe rehabilitation process can successfully restore severely deteriorated large diameter pipes of all shapes, types and conditions. Using this restoration method, MCSP expertly applies a high-strength cementitious coating containing a proprietary blend of additives that make the compromised pipeline impermeable. To further prevent cracking and shrinkage, epoxies and urethane coatings can be applied to the cementitious lining that are resistant to bacterial and chemical exposure. This technology is designed to rehabilitate pipelines ranging from 30" to 120" in diameter.
Spin Casted Lining
A versatile repair method, spincasting relies on a precisely controlled spin caster that is inserted into the pipe and withdrawn at a calculated speed creating thin layers of high-strength, cementitious grout or mortar that tightly adheres to the original substrate. Spin casting is an efficient, long-lasting structural repair method for large diameter pipe, often costing less per foot than other options.
Sliplining
Another form of trenchless rehabilitation, sliplining is used to repair leaks or restore the structural stability and integrity of an existing pipeline. This cost-effective method offers all the benefits and service life of a new pipe with minimal construction disruption and, as with storm culverts, often without bypass pumping.
Geopolymer Lining
The application of geopolymer mortar is used in the rehabilitation and lining of manholes, culverts and other large diameter pipes and structures. Resistant to bacterial and chemical corrosion, these geopolymer linings help prevent future infiltration/exfiltration leakage while improving the performance and strength of the existing structure.
Shotcreting
Shotcrete is a cost-effective trenchless process for repairing large sewage and stormwater pipelines. Utilizing this method, a high volume of a concrete mixture is sprayed through a hose and pneumatically projected at high velocity to line the interior of the structure.
